What Shoreditch is like to stay in

Street art covers many walls, particularly around Rivington Street, Great Eastern Street and Brick Lane. Boxpark, a food and retail space built from shipping containers, sits by Shoreditch High Street, and Redchurch Street has independent fashion and homeware shops.

It is loud on Friday and Saturday nights. If you prefer quiet, ask for an apartment on a side street or higher floor.

The area's transformation began in the 1990s, when artists and designers moved into cheap industrial buildings. Since then, its old workshops and warehouses have become offices, galleries, bars and restaurants, and new towers have risen on its southern edge near the City. Arnold Circus, with its bandstand and ring of red-brick mansion blocks, is one of London's earliest council estates and a quiet spot to sit. Shoreditch Park and Hoxton Square provide some green space, and the Regent's Canal is a short walk north for runs or longer strolls.

Markets and history

Brick Lane has Sunday markets, bagel bakeries that open around the clock and a long run of curry houses. Old Spitalfields Market and Columbia Road flower market are close by.

Shoreditch also has deep theatrical roots: some of Shakespeare's early plays were staged here, and the remains of the Curtain Theatre have been excavated near Great Eastern Street.

For business stays

The Old Street area is one of Europe's best-known tech clusters, and Liverpool Street and the City's financial firms are just south. For project teams working with both, Shoreditch is a practical base, with plenty of places for informal meetings.

Why ask the residence direct?

Booking sites charge the residence a commission on every night. Ask direct and there is none, so the residence has room to move: unpublished specials, a better rate for longer stays, breakfast, flexible check-in and check-out, and sometimes help with theatre or restaurant bookings.
