How central London divides up
Mayfair, St James's and Belgravia are polished and quiet, with galleries, tailors and embassies. Marylebone and Fitzrovia feel more like villages, with independent high streets and plenty of restaurants. Covent Garden, Soho and the theatre district are lively late into the night.
East of Holborn, the City of London is the financial district, busy on weekdays and hushed at weekends. South of the river, Bankside and the South Bank bring theatres, galleries and riverside walks.
A few practical points help when choosing. Areas with theatres and bars, such as Soho and Covent Garden, are noisy late into the evening, while Marylebone, Belgravia and Pimlico are quiet after dark. The City empties at weekends, which suits some guests and not others. Families often prefer to be near one of the parks, and anyone with a lot of luggage or regular airport runs may want to be close to Paddington or Victoria. If you are unsure which part of the centre suits your stay best, tell us about your plans and we will suggest options.
Parks, museums and shopping
The Royal Parks — Hyde Park, Green Park, St James's Park and Regent's Park — give the centre a surprising amount of open space. Many of the great national museums and galleries are free to enter, from the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square to the British Museum in Bloomsbury.
Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street carry the major shops, while smaller streets such as Marylebone High Street and Jermyn Street suit a slower browse.
Business stays in the centre
Head offices, law firms and agencies are spread across the West End, Holborn and the City. Choosing an apartment close to your office cuts commuting time on a long project, and most central areas are within easy reach of each other by Tube or taxi.
How quotes work
Send us your dates and preferred areas. We ask each suitable residence for a quote and pass them on. You book and pay the residence directly, and we charge no booking fee.

Why ask the residence direct?
Booking sites charge the residence a commission on every night. Ask direct and there is none, so the residence has room to move: unpublished specials, a better rate for longer stays, breakfast, flexible check-in and check-out, and sometimes help with theatre or restaurant bookings.
