What the City is like to stay in

Glass towers such as the Gherkin and the Leadenhall Building stand beside medieval churches, Roman wall fragments and the Wren spires rebuilt after the Great Fire. Monday to Friday the streets fill with office workers; by Saturday you can walk down Cheapside almost alone.

Weekends are a good time to explore St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London and the riverside path east towards Tower Bridge.

For business stays

The Bank of England, Lloyd's, the London Stock Exchange and many of the world's largest banks, insurers and law firms are here. Staying in the City removes the commute and makes early starts and late finishes easier. Canary Wharf and the West End are both straightforward to reach.

Eating, culture and green space

Leadenhall Market, with its Victorian roof, has restaurants and wine bars. The Barbican Centre hosts the London Symphony Orchestra, theatre, cinema and a hidden conservatory. Postman's Park and the churchyard gardens give small patches of calm.

Across the Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern and Borough Market are within easy reach.

The City also hosts several of London's great civic buildings. Guildhall, the seat of the City of London Corporation, has a medieval great hall and an art gallery built above the remains of a Roman amphitheatre. The Monument commemorates the Great Fire of 1666 and has a viewing gallery at the top, and the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street offers free views across London by advance booking. The livery halls, many dating back centuries, open occasionally to the public, and the City's churches hold lunchtime recitals through the week.

Why ask the residence direct?
