What Marylebone is like to stay in

Marylebone High Street and Marylebone Lane are the heart of daily life, with independent shops, bakeries, cheesemongers and Daunt Books in its Edwardian galleried shop. A Sunday farmers' market takes place behind the high street.

Manchester Square, Portman Square and Dorset Square offer quieter pockets, and the streets away from the main roads are calm in the evening.

The area's history is written into its streets. The Portman and Howard de Walden estates own large parts of Marylebone and have worked to keep independent shops on the high street. St Marylebone Parish Church, where Robert Browning married Elizabeth Barrett, stands at the top of the high street. Marylebone also has literary associations with Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle, and the Sherlock Holmes Museum on Baker Street attracts fans from around the world. Chiltern Street, with its shops and restaurants, is a quieter alternative to the high street.

Culture and parks

The Wallace Collection, on Manchester Square, holds Old Master paintings, armour and French decorative art, and is free to visit. The Wigmore Hall is one of the world's best-known venues for chamber music.

Regent's Park, to the north, has Queen Mary's Rose Gardens, an open-air theatre in summer and London Zoo on its northern edge. Sherlock Holmes fans will find Baker Street here too.

For medical and business stays

Harley Street and Wimpole Street are home to hundreds of private clinics and consultants, and many international patients and families stay in Marylebone for that reason. The area is also close to offices across the West End, Fitzrovia and Paddington.

Why ask the residence direct?

Booking sites charge the residence a commission on every night. Ask direct and there is none, so the residence has room to move: unpublished specials, a better rate for longer stays, breakfast, flexible check-in and check-out, and sometimes help with theatre or restaurant bookings.
