London theatre in autumn: productions, venues and tickets

Hamilton is at the Victoria Palace, Wicked at the Apollo Victoria and The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre. All three are long-running choices, but they sit in different parts of the West End. Match the venue to your evening before choosing an apartment around “theatreland”.
Productions and their theatres
| Production | Theatre | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Hamilton | Victoria Palace | Victoria |
| Wicked | Apollo Victoria | Victoria |
| The Phantom of the Opera | His Majesty’s | Haymarket |
| Les Misérables | Sondheim | Shaftesbury Avenue |
| Matilda | Cambridge | Seven Dials |
For limited runs, use the National Theatre’s current programme. Its South Bank theatres are across the river from the West End venues above.
Choosing seats
Use the theatre’s current booking calendar for ticket prices on your dates.
The seat matters as much as the price band. A restricted view can mean a pillar, a rail or an angle that hides part of the stage. Read the restriction for the actual seat before payment. For a group, request seats together.
Wicked’s day-seat release
Wicked’s Daily Dozen digital day seats are released at 10am on performance days through TodayTix. A release gives an opportunity to book; it does not guarantee seats. A fixed-date celebration may be better served by an advance reservation.
Where to stay for the evening
Victoria serves Hamilton and Wicked. Mayfair is convenient for a Haymarket evening and dinner around Piccadilly. Covent Garden and Soho place you nearer Seven Dials and Shaftesbury Avenue. An apartment described as central London can still involve a journey across town after the curtain.
Allow time for collecting tickets, security and the walk from the station. For a pre-theatre meal, give the restaurant the curtain time when booking. The restaurant guide includes recorded menu prices; the area guide helps with the accommodation choice.
