What Soho is like to stay in

Soho has been a place of immigrants, artists and music for three centuries. Mozart stayed here as a child, Marx lived on Dean Street, and the Marquee Club and Ronnie Scott's made Soho central to British jazz and rock. Its narrow streets still hold independent record shops, tailors and delicatessens.

Soho Square and Golden Square give some open space. Expect noise in the evenings, particularly at weekends.

Despite its reputation for nightlife, Soho also has a strong sense of community. Berwick Street market has traded since the eighteenth century and is now known for street food at lunchtime. The House of St Barnabas, a Georgian mansion on Greek Street, is a private members' club and charity. Soho Theatre on Dean Street focuses on comedy and new writing. The area has been the centre of London's LGBTQ+ life for decades, especially around Old Compton Street. Many residents still live above shops and restaurants, keeping it a genuine neighbourhood as well as an entertainment district.

Where to eat and go out

Few parts of London have more restaurants in so little space. Dean Street, Frith Street, Greek Street and Old Compton Street are lined with them, and Chinatown sits along Gerrard Street to the south.

The theatres of Shaftesbury Avenue are on the doorstep, and Carnaby Street and Kingly Court are at the western edge for shopping and casual dining.

For business stays

Soho is home to many film, television and post-production companies, as well as advertising and music businesses. Staying here puts you within a short walk of studios, agencies and clients across the West End.

Choosing an apartment here

Apartments range from converted Georgian townhouses to modern buildings. Let us know your dates and whether a quieter street matters, and we will request quotes from each residence. You book and pay the residence directly, with no booking fee.

Why ask the residence direct?

Booking sites charge the residence a commission on every night. Ask direct and there is none, so the residence has room to move: unpublished specials, a better rate for longer stays, breakfast, flexible check-in and check-out, and sometimes help with theatre or restaurant bookings.
