The same London apartment can be offered by its operator and through a booking platform. The rooms may match while the price, cancellation terms, payment schedule and support arrangements differ.

Is going direct cheaper?
It can be, but there is no reliable percentage to subtract from a platform price. Operators choose their direct prices and their platform rates. A refundable platform offer can cost more than a non-refundable direct offer because the terms differ.
For an illustration, £250 a night totals £7,500 over 30 nights. A written offer of £7,200 would save £300 only if it covers the same apartment, guests, services, tax and cancellation rights. Those numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not an offer from a residence.
Use the final checkout total and a full-stay direct quote. Keep refundable security deposits separate from accommodation costs. A cleaning fee paid once can affect a seven-night comparison differently from a 90-night comparison.
Monthly stays need their own terms
Darley House’s minimum is 90 nights. Hill Street takes three months and Amberley six months. A monthly search filter will not necessarily explain those building terms. Give the residence actual dates and request its price for the full stay.
Airbnb home bookings of 28 nights or more use long-term cancellation rules. A direct booking uses the operator’s agreement. Monthly payments still follow the booking’s cancellation terms.
Who helps if arrival goes wrong?
A platform booking can include assistance under that platform’s eligibility rules. A direct booking relies on the residence’s arrangements. Identify the person who can authorise an alternative apartment or refund, especially when arrival is outside office hours.
Keep a platform reservation and its payment within that platform’s permitted process. A separately sourced direct enquiry is a separate purchase. London Residency’s team requests residence quotes through the stay planner.
Airbnb: fees, longer stays and AirCover
Airbnb uses different fee structures. A reservation may show a guest fee or put the platform charge into the host’s price. Use the checkout total instead of subtracting an assumed percentage. Airbnb also lists professionally managed apartments. Housekeeping and reception details belong to the individual listing.
AirCover for guests can provide assistance with serious booking problems, including a host cancellation or a substantial difference from the listing, under its eligibility rules. It is not travel insurance and does not transfer to an independently arranged direct booking.
For bookings of 28 nights or more, read the long-term cancellation terms before committing. If a relocation date is uncertain, get the cost of leaving early as well as adding nights.
Vrbo: family homes, service fees and VrboCare
Vrbo’s traveller service fee varies. Its pricing guidance includes required fees in the displayed total. Put that figure beside the full direct quotation for the same guests, dates, bedrooms and services.
VrboCare applies to eligible reservations completed through Vrbo’s checkout. Read the programme’s conditions alongside the individual booking’s cancellation rules. A full-refund cancellation within the applicable window can also refund the service fee; the reservation’s actual deadlines matter.
For a family, record doubles, twins, sofa beds, cot space and bathrooms separately. A whole-home listing can still have a sleeping arrangement that does not fit the group. Settle laundry and step-free access requirements through the booking route you choose.
Booking.com: identify the rate and payment collector
The same property can offer refundable and non-refundable rate categories, with different payment dates. Read who collects payment, what the booked category includes, and whose cancellation and no-show terms apply. Compare the final platform total with the full direct quote.
