For a renovation move, the return date is often the least certain part of the booking. Price the planned period and the possible overrun at the same time.

A six-week job and a six-month job need different homes

Darley House in Mayfair requires 90 nights. Hill Street’s recorded term is three months. Amberley starts at six months. Those buildings can work for a substantial project, but their minimums do not fit a brief kitchen replacement.

Fraser Suites Queens Gate offers studios and one- and two-bedroom homes, with long-stay pricing from 28 nights. Beaufort House in Knightsbridge has one to four bedrooms. The Milestone Residences in Kensington has two- and three-bedroom categories. For these enquiries, the actual dates and category determine the offer.

Keep school and work journeys manageable

A smaller apartment near the existing school may serve the family better than a larger one across London. Give the team the school and office postcodes, the required bedrooms and the normal departure times. Include pets before a shortlist is drawn up.

For meals and laundry, request an equipment list covering the oven, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Marylebone Mews records fitted kitchens and housekeeping three times a week. Calico House includes in-apartment washing and drying facilities and utilities, but normally requires three months.

Budget for time away

Kensington’s 12 priced residences have a median recorded starting rate of £250 a night. Thirty nights at that figure are £7,500; another 14 nights add £3,500. It is an arithmetic example from a mixed-size sample, not a family-apartment offer. Request a negotiated total for the expected period and a stated rate for extra nights.

The extension agreement should say how much notice is required and whether moving apartments might be necessary. For an early return home, record the charges that remain payable. A builder finishing ahead of schedule does not automatically end the accommodation booking.

What to take

Keep documents, medicines, work equipment and everyday clothes with you. Storage for packed household contents is a separate requirement. Arrange parcel delivery, parking and access for any family member who will arrive later.

If an insurer or employer is paying, get budget approval and the invoice recipient before booking. Send the team the expected dates and the likely overrun, with the requirements the household cannot compromise on.
